Mt Eden is a haven for cafes, restaurants and shops – it is highly competitive and the standards are raised compared to other parts of Auckland. Ironique café seems like a little inconspicuous café that is not visible if you’re driving by however once inside – it is clear that Ironique has an old vintage attitude fused with modern meals. Check out their toilet and you’ll understand what I mean.
Their meals are more generous than other cafes (People, you don’t complain when someone gives you MORE food), tasty and comes out quick! A fantastic café in Mt Eden – come here for brunch or lunch and you will be back again!
Unless you have been to Ironique before, can be confusing as to what you’re doing. You can be asked to take a seat but you’ll have to order at the counter. The lovely waitresses are more than happy to assist though.
Also don’t fret if you think it looks packed – walk to the back and there are WAY more tables and chairs! So deceptive!
For similar cafes – you’ll pay the exact same price but only get a FRACTION of the portions. Doesn’t that annoy you? Well at Ironique the prices truly reflect what you’re going to get – Quality AND Quantity, a rarity for New Zealand cafes. One of the reasons why I tried Ironique was because of the Entertainment book voucher which gave another free dish at the same value (WORTH IT!) and I have been a loyal fan of Ironique ever since!
Ironique is best experienced for a brunch or lunch date – their menu reflects this. However they also serve dinner time which I have yet to experience.
What I love about their light meals – is that it’s not light at all, they got weight! Their pan fried salmon salad is generous, delicious and fresh. Their Steak and Chicken burgers are fantastic, cooked perfectly well. The soft English bap is perfect with either the steak or chicken and compliments the meaty dish.
I love Ironique as a great Mt Eden café. One of the suggestions I could give is to have a sign saying “Order at Counter first”, I've noticed that several first time customers that walk in are expecting to be served.
