Tucked away in Ponsonby is an American inspired smoked meat haven for meat lovers. We went here for dinner with a group of 7 including one child. It became packed later in the evening but was a great way to have a Friday night – the service was great except for waitresses taking our drinks away too soon. The food was smoked meaty heaven! Having the Pit Boss set menu was definitely worth the weight and quantity of what we got. The Beef Brisket and Pork belly were melt in the mouth smooth and the smokiness really came through!
If you’re a smoked meat fan – Miss Moonshines are the smoke masters.
Ever came across service that was too friendly? As in the waiter sniffs your drink, takes it away and gives you a new one because it wasn’t good enough. That’s super friendly service – it was our waiter of the night we dined and we was a personality and made dining at Miss Moonshines that much more worth it.
The only reason why it didn’t get a 5/5 is because the waitresses were a bit too hasty in taking away our drinks when they weren’t finished yet however they didn’t get us new ones so it wasn’t an issue.
This is Ponsonby. Everything will be more expensive slightly. However, you’re paying for free range meats and the smoked meat speciality which they say is done for 3-6 hours, depending on the meat. The Pit Boss set menu for a minimum of 4 people is around $45 – do not worry about quantity, there is MORE than enough.
A group of us had the Pit Boss set menu which consisted of Corn bread with burnt butter, Macaroni Cheese balls (didn’t take a picture of this because everyone had gobbled them up), Smoked Salmon with beetroot and salad, Slaw, Pig tail fries (curly fries), Chicken Maryland, Pork belly and Beef Brisket off the bone. For the amount we had, it was definitely worth it – everyone was full by the end of it. Only thing about the shared menu was that we had to share half a chicken between 7 people – so we had scraps. Also it wasn’t really Chicken Maryland, it was just smoked chicken with guacamole.
The Pork Belly and Beef Brisket was fantastic but everything else was just sitting on the alright side of things.
