There are Thai restaurants everywhere, Auckland is no exception. Even in the tiniest of towns there’s probably a Thai restaurant.
Mae Nam Khong is not just your average job Thai restaurant – its specifically Northern East Thai and Laos cuisine. Mae Nam Khong is the most humble restaurant you will walk into but you are served with true Thai hospitality and their food is fantastic. Their Larb Snapper is truly a fantastic dish, especially if you’re a seafood fan.
Drop by this hidden gem of a restaurant, located right next to Black Salt in New Lynn – it is a great way to have a taste of Thailand without having to fly!
No doubt, their Larb Snapper is their speciality dish. Fried perfectly well, the snapper was fresh and the larb sauce paired with it perfectly as if there were swimming in the ocean together. We also had a sizzling plate of vegetables, prawns and their garlic sauce – The flavour was just right, the garlic was not over powering and had the right amount of saltiness to it that made the prawns more flavourful and the sizzling plate meant the prawns were nice and crunchy.
Came here twice, both times for lunch and the service was consistent, patient and helpful both times.
It is a bit more pricier than most Thai restaurants however the quality and quantity makes up for the price. For lunch we only ordered 2 dishes and rice for 3 people and we were all sufficiently full from the meal and had some to doggy bag home!
